The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal Law that requires creating national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient's consent or knowledge.
Texas Occupational Code 159.005(a) and 159.006(d)
The consent for the release of confidential information must be in writing.
A physician shall provide the information requested under this section no later than the 15th business day after the date of receipt of the written consent for release.
